Mar Me Quer

With the Arade River as a backdrop, the Mar Me Quer festival fills the riverside area of Portimão with good Portuguese music in August.

Being this a time of holidays and many visitors to the Algarve city, this festival offers another programme of great animation to Portimão’s evenings. The music starts late in the afternoon with DJs creating the sunset for those who want to go straight from the beach to the party.

Although it is still recent, having had its first edition in 2022, Mar Me Quer has had a commitment to contribute to the sustainability of the planet since the beginning. In addition to the already popular use of Eco-Cup at festivals, all the festival decoration is also made by visual artists with materials collected from the oceans.

About the local

Located at the mouth of the Arade River, Portimão has a long fishing tradition with a great development in the 19th and 20th centuries, thanks to the canning industry and tourism. This tradition is still visible in the streets and in the historical centre, going hand in hand with a dynamism and modernity that has been developing in the last decades.

When one thinks of beaches in the Algarve, Praia da Rocha is high on the list of the most emblematic and touristic ones. Its calm and warm sea makes it a choice destination for families or for those who want to take a few days off to relax by the sea.
