Who said that the festivals were only in the summer? Porto has the ideal festival in the middle of spring, Primavera Sound.
It’s been running since 2012 in a city that has been making its name as one of the best European tourist destinations. Perhaps that’s why around 90 thousand people from 50 countries come to this festival each year, over a three-day period. And this number has been constantly growing.
Primavera Sound Porto comes across as the Portuguese equivalent of the San Miguel Primavera Sound open-air festival, which takes place in Barcelona.
The artistic line-up follows the same principles as the Barcelona event, which is notable for the variety of styles, highlighting both the local landscape and international artists, and for its commitment to new bands as well as artists with long and respected careers. The festival takes place in the Parque da Cidade, a large city park beside the Atlantic coast that is able to receive about 30,000 people a day. The line-up will be distributed among several different stages.
Primavera Sound Porto is now a mandatory stop in panorama of European festivals, having been mentioned in 2017 by The Guardian as one of the top 10 music festivals in Europe.
